I don’t have to tell you that life is hard.
Seems like everyone is taking a beating.
- Marriages are in crisis.
- Unemployment is on the rise.
- Job security is low.
- Loyalty is scarce.
- Restlessness abounds.
- Politics is confusing.
- And the news is depressing.
Not long ago, I stood in the driveway chatting with my husband while he washed the car. We were talking about the state of our nation and people’s endless fears. My husband nailed it when he said, “Honey, I think what people are most desperate for is the Good News." It was such a revelation for me. We trade the news for the News. Even craving the news instead of the News. And we're left empty. Latest headlines, talk radio shows, nightly news programs, and newspapers help, but the Good News saves.
There is a Savior and His name is Jesus.
- He forgives sin.
- Heals our hurts.
- Binds our wounds.
- Releases us from captivities and addictions.
- Leaving us breathless with His love.
- He can transform any life.
- All we must do is surrender every fiber of our being, repenting of our sin, asking Him to save us.
This process changes how we see life. How we see everything, really.
I’ve pushed back from watching much of the news lately. My husband did the same with talk radio. Now I skim the headlines, picking and choosing my exposure. It’s amazing how reading the news, verses watching the news, removes the sensationalism. Better to read the Holy Scriptures anyway to see how all of this unfolds anyway. He's in control. And His people have His Spirit.
Interestingly, I’m much more at peace. Less fearful, and hopefully less cynical. My man is as well.
Many are asking: Where is our nation headed?
But the bigger question is: Where are you headed?
I know a Savior who offers hope in the midst of storms. His Name is Jesus. Please reach for Him this weekend. You’ll never regret it! He will love your heart to life. As long as He occupies the throne, we’re never without present salvation.
I’ll leave you with these Scriptures that offer sound advice for any and all our lives:
“My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught" (Proverbs 3:21-26, ESV).
“All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:27-30, ESV).
Praying you hide in the love of Jesus and His great comfort this weekend. xxoo
