Go On, Be An Attention Hog

“My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”

And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”

Psalm27:8, NLT

Peyton, my eldest daughter, has a puppy that’s shameless in her affection for us. That little ball of goodness wrapped in the softest fur of white is an attention hog. She doesn't dare let us forget she's there. Milly makes demands on our attention for us to play with her almost constantly. But, you can be sure, we don’t mind. My husband is always saying, "That little dog sure does love her people!" Milly brings us all outrageous delight.

While thinking of our relationship to God, I often wonder if our Heavenly Father longs for us to act like Milly toward Him? Does He long for us to make demands on His attention too, like a bunch of attention hogs? Demands that He love us, be tender to us, and give us His full attention? Does He long for us to be so incredibly taken with Him that He could affectionately say of us, "that daughter of mine sure does love her Daddy!"

I believe so.

He loves us too much not to feel this way.

What if we got on to giving Him what He longs for?
