Are you good at trusting God with your burdens, worries and stress?
I must admit, sometimes I am and sometimes I'm not.
Regardless, there comes a time when we must let Jesus lighten our load.
The stress. The burdens. The nervous stomach, ulcers, and cray-cray thoughts.
The truth is, in the risen-ness of Christ, we can arise, too—you, me, and all who courageously dare to take God at His Word with an unfurled brow, renewed energy in our steps, and a smile on our face. Yes, I did say, a smile on our face. Because He’s been too good to us for us not to!
Did you know at one point God specifically disciplined His people because they did not serve Him with a joyfulness and gladness of heart? He sure did. Listen to it right here:
“Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things, therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything” (Deuteronomy 28:47).
Perhaps, like me, you have something going on in your life that's terribly saddening. So saddening that you almost feel guilty when you do feel happy—as if being happy means we don't care, or we've moved on. Do you know what I’m trying to describe here?
But, honestly, the more I’ve thought about this, this is what I’m discovering:
When you and I celebrate through a gladness of heart the good things God has continually supplied, it isn’t demonstrating a lack of respect for our unbearable circumstances.
Not at all.
To be honest, you and me relishing in the goodness God abundantly provides keeps us from making an idol out of our pain. What our worshipful actions do is helps to redirect our hearts from worshipping our pain instead of worshipping our God.
Friend, is this speaking to you today?
Is it time to allow Jesus His rightful place in your heart?
Go ahead... let Him lighten your load. Slap a smile on your face. And be free from the bondage your circumstances are trying to drag you into!
Your God is mighty enough to give you joy and to handle your burdens.
You can trust Him.
